How to Choose Carnivorous Plants that will Thrive for you
Different Carnivorous Plants can be grown in a very wide variety of
conditions. Some will live happily in peat gardens, outside, with no
special protection. Others need glass houses or shade houses. Some will
grow inside houses on kitchen shelves or in
terraria.
A few need very
special growing conditions, watering systems and constant high
temperatures. It is important to be aware of the needs of the
Carnivorous Plants you buy and not to expect them to do well all
together in the same environment.
The growing conditions in which Carnivorous plants do well fall into
three main categories:
- Some grow in the wild in
swamps or bogs in areas like North America.
These are hardy enough to be grown outdoors.
- Those that grow in tropical jungle canopies, coming from areas such
as Malaysia and New Guinea, and usually should be grown in hothouses;
and
- Those that like a cool root system and a fairly even temperature
because they are native to high mountain areas such as North America,
South America, and Borneo. This latter group of plants need special
conditions to keep the plant healthy and should only be attempted by the
experienced grower.
