Rainbow Carnivorous Plant (Byblis)
This genus has two species, the Gigantea and Liniflora, and both are
native to Australia. while these plants are large compared to the
Drosera, stories of them catching rabbits and similar sized prey are
quite untrue. They are often mistaken for Drosera but there are major
differences between Byblis and Drosera. The first is that the Byblis are
passive plants; unlike Drosera which has tentacles that move to capture
the prey, the Byblis has sticky hairs that don't move.
Species
Byblis Gigantea - this can be found in West Australia. It stands
erect and is a very tall plant, growing up to 60 centimeters high.
Byblis Liniflora - is more widespread in Australia than the Gigantea
and is found in the Northern Territory and Queensland as well as West
Australia. It has several flowers on the one stem which are blue-pink
colour with petals 1 centimeters long.
